Description

A warm welcome at Award-winning Magnolia. In beautiful countryside yet only 2 minutes walk to town. Lovely gardens, private parking. Home cooking, local produce.

"A superb place to stay - fine hosts - lovely town, surrounded by some of the best countryside in Europe!"

"How can you improve on perfection?"

These comments from our guests are a wonderful introduction to Magnolia.  Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, our award winning Bed and Breakfast is ideally situated for your visit to the unique town of Bishop's Castle and to enjoy the special tranquility of the Shropshire Hills.

From the moment you arrive you will be made welcome; with home made cake, a choice of teas, coffee or home made cordial - especially made for those warm summer days on the patio!  Our rooms are named after their stunning views of Long Mynd, Oakley Mynd and the Wintles Valley and all overlook our lovely garden, which is equipped with various seating areas for you to relax.  Maybe you'll even enjoy a game of 'boules' or croquet on the lawn!

The three en-suite rooms are light and airy with contemporary furnishings and crisp white bed linen. Our extremely comfortable superking beds can be 6' doubles or 3' twins, with goose feather and down duvets and pillows to sink into at the end of a busy day.  They are all equipped with TV, radio/alarm, hairdryer, spring water, a choice of teas, coffee, hot chocolate, cafetiere, handmade biscuits, wine glasses, blankets and a hot water bottle.  Each en-suite bathroom has our specially designed double walk in showers, heated towel rail with plenty of thick fluffy towels, bathrobes and a selection of toiletries.

Breakfast is a special treat at Magnolia, with fresh fruit salad including peaches, grapes and raspberries from our garden when in season.  We use local organic produce whenever we can for our traditional Shropshire Breakfast, all cooked in the oven with tomatoes from the greenhouse and traditionally poached free range eggs.  Don't forget to try our famous 'Celebration Breakfast' of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and Buck's Fizz while you're here.  All our preserves are home made by Elizabeth and the honey provided by next door's bees!!

Just a few minutes walk away are the two famed micro-breweries of the Three Tuns, brewing since 1642 and Six Bells, brewing since 1997, and the Castle Hotel, Ganges Indian Restaurant and Capricho Cafe just a few of the marvellous eating places in Bishop's Castle.  While you're here take time to visit the House on Crutches and Bishop's Castle Rail and Transport Museums.

At the end of our garden is the Shropshire Way and we are surrounded by many excellent long distance paths including Offa's Dyke, Jack Mytton Way and Wild Edric's Way.  There are many shorter circular walks and cycle routes in the area if you prefer and we have maps and books for you to borrow with plenty of recommendations!  We will even provide your packed lunch, pick you up from your walk and drop you off the next day to continue your route.  Wildlife here is in abundance, Red Kites and Owls are often spotted nearby.

There are so many local beauty spots nearby including Bury Ditches and Colstey Woods, Mitchells Fold, Bromlow Callow, the Stiperstones and Long Mynd.  If you're feeling less energetic there are of course many places to visit in the area including The Bog Visitor Centre, Powis Castle, Berrington Hall, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Acton Scott Working Farm, nearby Clun Castle and the now restaurant-famed Ludlow.

We are delighted to have been given 'Bed and Breakfast of the Year' Bronze Award by Heart of England Excellence in Tourism in October 2006 and only three months after opening in 2005 were awarded 4 diamonds and the accolade of a Gold Award by Visit Britain.

Geoff and Elizabeth look forward to welcoming you to Magnolia
